In October 2022 we launched our Way Forward Appeal to fundraise £1.6 million to support our urgent and emergency care services at the Great Western Hospital.

The programme of work includes the new urgent treatment centre and a new look expanded emergency department supported by an environmentally friendly energy centre powering the two new facilities.  The new centres will help us to create a hospital environment suitable for Swindon's growing and ageing population, now and well into the future.

We've raised the funds needed for the installation of a beautiful sky ceiling in the children's waiting room, soft beehive style seating in the waiting area, sensory equipment such as gaming carts and bubble tubes for children with additional needs, and an adaptive bathroom for both children and adults.  The next phase of fundraising will support the developments in the Emergency Department funding items like a diagnostic mobile x-ray, a paediatric ventilator, another sky ceiling for the emergency children's room, relatives rooms, resus room divider mobile storage walls and sensory items.

All of these fundraising projects aim to create welcoming and calm environments which meet the needs of all our patients, reducing anxiety and supporting patient dignity.
